Description:

Ornidazole is a 5-nitroimidazole derivative active against protozoa and anaerobic bacteria.

It is used against infections. Ornidazole is partially plasma-bound and also has radiation-sensitizing action.

Mechanism:

Ornidazole is converted to reduction products that interact with DNA to cause destruction of helical DNA structure and strand leading to a protein synthesis inhibition and cell death in susceptible organisms.

Usage:

-Ornidazole is used to treat trichomonas infections

-Ornidazole will be made into some formulations which are destructive to amebae, especially the parasitic species causing AMEBIASIS in man and animal.

-Ornidazole will be made into drugs that will potentiate the effectiveness of radiation therapy in destroying unwanted cells.
